The main focus of this tragic story was the teacher, who was going to be "the first teacher in space". This was a big deal for many Americans, as my mother told me over and over and over about this tragedy, always with the teacher at the forefront of her mind.

When I once made a tour at Cape Canaveral, the guide told the tourists that Armstrong's words, "That's one small step for man one giant leap for mankind," were scripted by an author, he even gave the name, which I forgot after the years, and I found this information never in the internet.

Zachary, do you think they really died in the explosion or they never got on the Challenger? I actually remember watching this live on TV when I was a young girl and yes they made it a big deal about the Teacher. What made me look this up on your blog is because on Netflix there is a documentary series on the 80s decade. Now that I'm awake I see how events were staged, like Reagan getting shot and the Challenger.
